Time stands still in the heart of Ladysmith

The Town Clock is stuck at 7.35

People living in Ladysmith can’t remember when last they saw the Town Clock ticking and showing the correct time. Residents feel that since the Town Clock has such historical significance and takes pride of place at the heart of Ladysmith, it should not be stuck in the past but rather take the town into a bright future where tourism is booming because of all the battlefield attractions we have to offer.

History buffs are shaking their heads in wonder at how this situation can just be left to continue.

The Town Clock is stuck at 7.35.

Ladysmith tour guide Mrs Liz Spiret tells the Ladysmith Gazette that many tourists from other countries have noticed that the clock is not working and have asked her about it. “It is quite embarrassing as a tour guide to give an answer to our tourists regarding this matter; it is a landmark and one of the major historical attractions of our town,” says Mrs Spiret.

A local technician, who would like to remain anonymous, says that no one in town can fix this huge clock, as certain settings and moderation needs to be done. “Only certain service providers in SA can fix it,” says the technician.
