NFWAA casts off for an exciting season

The next fixture is the first round of the Devland Impuphu Knockout, to take place on September 8 at Sandford.

The new Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) season cast off at the weekend.

NFWAA affiliate clubs for the season are Itec Freespool and Chelmsford AC of Newcastle, Docrats AC and Riverside AC of Dundee, and the young and vibrant Endumeni AC of Glencoe.

This season sees a new sponsor join the angling fraternity, and the association is grateful to Devland Impuphu Wholesalers of Newcastle for joining hands in making the season exciting.

The calendar for the upcoming season sees five leagues, three knockout rounds and an internal Championship competition.

The Devland Impuphu League 1 was fixtured for Richgate at Ntshingwayo Dam. Anglers were all in high spirits awaiting this day and queued at the gates from as early as 2am, to secure the best spots in the competition area.

Bites were slow, as expected at this time of the year and anglers had to turn to their magic potions in their secret boxes to land any sizeable fish.

At the weigh-in at 4pm, anglers were tense as few nets were placed before the scale master.

Defending champion, Itec Freespool was the club that had a little worry in its eye at the weigh-in, as it was just a single point that made it take top spot on the log.

Itec Freespool ended with 18 points, followed closely with the ever-improving Endumeni AC with 17, Riverside AC 16, Docrats an 11 and bringing up the rear was Chelmsford on eight points.

Top catches for the day came from the Nimmerhout duo: Shane landed a 4.050 kilogram carp and Alvin bagged a 3.850kg barbel. Both anglers are from Docrats AC.

The NFWAA chairperson thanks all the clubs for the continued support and the sponsors for giving back to the angling community of Newcastle and surrounding towns.
