Human hand found in homestead near Ladysmith

After making the grisly find, an inquiry docket was opened at Ezakheni SAPS

Police officials made the gruesome discovery of a severed human hand on Sunday, August 11, at a homestead in Ezakheni. Their arrival at the home followed a tip-off.

After making the grisly find, an inquiry docket was opened at Ezakheni SAPS and the following afternoon, the team of Acting Station Commander Colonel Mngadi, Lieutenant Colonel Langa and Captain Nyathi proceeded to KwaMthandi to begin their investigation.

They were joined by a forensics team and the K9 Unit. SAPS officials interviewed residents and followed clues until finally they found the remains of a deceased person – to which the hand reportedly belonged – hidden inside a drain under a railway crossing in the Pieters area.

A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Police commented that the body had not yet been formally identified and investigations into the matter would continue.
