Local beauty struts her stuff on stage in Paraguay

Girls from all over the world competed in the pageant, and Nellisa made it into the top 10

18-year-old Ladysmith girl Nellisa Palesa Zondi has been strutting her stuff on the stage and wowing judges with her looks, overseas. Nellisa recently represented South Africa in the Miss Teen Globe International beauty pageant that was hosted in Paraguay.

She went over to Paraguay on Thursday, July 18, and returned on Monday, July 29. Girls from all over the world competed in the pageant, and Nellisa made her hometown and country proud by making it into the top 10.

She says that her love for modelling started a long time ago, leading her to participate in local beauty pageants such as Miss Teen Globe South Africa. She walked away with the overall crown in the latter competition, which gave her the opportunity to represent her country overseas in Paraguay.

“I started doing pageants when I was 15 years old and I am very impressed by my growth so far. I am an optimist, adventurous, humble, a go-getter and I don’t believe in giving up.

“I believe that whenever a person is given a chance, they must maximise the opportunity and make sure they use it wisely. I am a firm believer in ‘girl power’; I believe girls are the future. I’m no feminist, but I strongly believe that as young girls in our generation, we are starting to be hungry for growth and with the correct tools – such as education, self-love and confidence – we are ready to be the future leaders,” said Nellisa.

She added that now she is back home, she will continue donating sanitary pads to young disadvantaged girls around Ladysmith, as she believes in “keeping the girl child at school”.

“I have been fortunate enough to have support from Longrich, whereby they give me sanitary pads to donate to young girls. No child should stay away from school just because they don’t have sanitary pads. I am going to continue visiting schools, where I will motivate young girls to love themselves. I will also continue working with Miss Teen Globe South Africa in different projects they have in store for me.”

Nellisa’s mother, Mrs Madondo, said she is proud to see her baby using her God-given talent in changing her own life. She added that she is grateful to all the people who made it possible for her daughter to go abroad, including sponsors, family and friends.
