Water interruptions: Here’s what to expect

Residents are paying the price for electric cable theft

Following electric cable theft at the Canna Avenue pump station yesterday (July 30), widespread water interruptions are affecting hundreds of residents.

Affected areas include Forderville, Colita, Papkuilsfontein and Rensburgdrift.

Uthukela District Municipality Communications Manager Jabulani Mkhonza says that electricians are on site, repairing the damage.

“We are, however, expecting the whole process to take some time because if the cable is stolen we have to replace it first. Once that is done, we have to run the pumps, fill up the reservoirs that have been emptied and thereafter release water supply. We are also expecting a few pipe bursts along the way when water is released due to the pressure accompanied by the flow of water as the pipeline will be empty,” explains Mr Mkhonza.

Mr Mkhonza has not indicated a time frame as to when water supply will be restored.

Regarding the electric cable theft, the district municipality urges residents to report any suspicious activity or information that could lead to an arrest to the nearest police station or the call centre on 086 010 4257.

“The municipality condemns such act of criminality in the strongest terms possible as it not only disrupt our services but also disadvantages many people out there,” added Mr Mkhonza.
