Sarel cricketers bowl the opposition over

The first matches of the Ayoba Women's League were hosted last Friday at Dundee High School.

Cricket – Sarel Cilliers’ under-15 team travelled to Vryheid on July 24, to play against Vryheid High. Vryheid batted first and made 141 runs for the loss of nine wickets, in its 20 overs, with the best bowlers for Sarel being Kevay Dheena with four wickets for 28 runs and Zaheer Chenia, with one wicket for 10 runs.

In reply, Sarel Cilliers chased down the total with six balls to spare and five wickets in hand. The best batsmen for Sarel were Zaheer Chenia (37 runs), Thabo Njapha (29 runs) and Dian Bierbaum (27 runs).

Action cricket – Action cricket is continuously played, even during the June/July holidays. A total of 12 games were played over the past six weeks and although only two victories were recorded, the boys gained crucial batting, bowling and fielding skills. This has had a positive impact on the boys’ outdoor cricket, with the u-15 and first team recording victories against Vryheid High School.

Top performances were recorded by Ayush Ramdutt, Saleh Raja, Zandre Kotzer, Erens van Rooyen, Taashlin Soobramoney, Jarren Theron, Nikeel Dookie, Bonga, Thabiso, Lwandle and Mncwango. All the other players chipped in with crucial wickets and runs.

Sarel girls soccer – On Thursday, Sarel Cilliers played its first home game against St Dominics Newcastle. The girls gave their all but were unfortunately defeated by three goals to two, with Owethu Zulu and Lusiwe Mkhonza the goalscorers. The first matches of the Ayoba Women’s League were hosted last Friday at Dundee High School. Both teams unfortunately lost to DHS and ML Sultan respectively.

Z Thusini plays for the girls football team.
