Rapist grandfather shackled with 25-year prison sentence

It is believed that at approximately 4pm on December 17, 2017, the 44-year-old man raped his 9-year-old granddaughter and attempted to buy her silence with R10, but was caught in the act by one of her siblings.

A rapist from the Bhanganoma area of Nongoma was convicted last Friday (July 19), for the rape of his granddaughter.

It is believed that at approximately 4pm on December 17, 2017, the 44-year-old man raped his 9-year-old granddaughter and attempted to buy her silence with R10, but was caught in the act by one of her siblings.

A case was subsequently opened at Nongoma Police Station. The matter was transferred to the Ulundi Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation, and an exhaustive effort by the team resulted in the conviction of the suspect in the Nongoma Regional Court.

The court sentenced the rapist to 25 years behind bars, and Ulundi SAPS is pleased with this outcome.
