The Newcastle Clivia Interest Group hopes new membership will soon take root.

The group hosted an Interspecific Clivia Show at the Newcastle Mall on July 13, where enthusiastic clivia exhibitors were judged in various categories.

The public also had the opportunity to view the clivias on show.

What are interspecific clivias?

“This includes any cross between two or more species of clivia. Should this interspecific plant be crossed with any other species or with itself, this plant remains an interspecific. It is very important to take note that interspecific forms have been identified as the shape of the flower, and not the shape of the umbel,” said clivia enthusiast, Louis Lotter.

The winners of the day were as follows:

Best on Show (Open) winner: Henry Howard.
First runner up: Felix Middleton.
Second runner up: Alfred Everson III.
Best on Show (Foliage) winner: Louis Lotter.
Exquisite Exhibit: Louis Lotter.
Best on Show (Novice) winner: Wilmarie Lotter.
