SA legend Johnny Clegg dies at 66

South African music legend, Johnny Clegg, passed away today.

Clegg was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.

He was known for his hits, ‘Great Heart’, ‘Scatterlings of Africa’ and ‘Impi’ – to name but a few.

Clegg was also a dancer, anthropologist, singer, songwriter, academic, activist and French knight and a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), according to his official website, www.johnnyclegg.com.

The British-born South African music legend has performed on all four of Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Aids Awareness Concerts in South Africa and in Norway.

Mandela has joined him on stage during the rendition of Asimbonanga, a song written by Johnny about Mandela (and other struggle heroes) during his period of incarceration.
