Treverton College learners become polar bears

Learners braved the cold water and participated in the Crazy Bear swim

Treverton College hosts a Crazy Bear swim on the closest Wednesday to the Winter Solstice, which happened to fall on Friday, June 21, this year. So Wednesday the 19th was the date set for the icy swim.

The air temperature was a warm 7 °C compared to 2018, which was -8 °C. This was due to a thick mist that covered the entire campus.

One of the learners get ready to brave the icy water.

However, the water was 4 °C, a degree cooler than last year. Jumping from a warm air temperature into cold water was literally breathtaking!

Jumpers came up gasping for air at the shock of the water temperature. Both heads of Treverton took the leap – John
Huggett (head of the prep) and Kean Broom (head of the college) – leading by example.
