On June 12, Simunye Youth Development Project (SYDP) planned a successful Youth Day event in partnership with the Department of Sport & Recreation and other government departments.

A sports tournament was held at schools around Weenen. The soccer winner was Weenen Combined School, and for netball, it was Ferdinand Primary School. More than 500 young people attended.
The guest speaker was former mayor Bongani Dlamini, who promised to donate uniforms to eight schools.
The event was funded by the Department of Sport & Recreation, who donated two soccer and netball jerseys per school and supplied the refreshments as well.
