Newcastle-born star represents at Miss SA

The pageant finale will be hosted at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria on Women’s Day, August 9, where 16 South African women will compete for the coveted Miss South Africa title.

The community of Newcastle can be proud of its modelling queen, 22-year-old Mbali Dlamini, who is currently in the Top 35 of the Miss South Africa 2019 pageant.

The pageant finale will be hosted at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria on Women’s Day, August 9, where 16 South African women will compete for the coveted Miss South Africa title.

Mbali grew up in Amajuba Park, and said she has always been passionate about modelling.

“Since a very young age, I have always been involved in modelling. I even started my own organisation that deals with the youth and tackles social ills. We basically have empowerment events and pageants with purpose. It has also always been my dream to enter Miss South Africa and after completing my degree in Strategic Brand Communication, I felt it was the perfect time. I also get to apply what I have studied, impact lives and add value.”

She added being part of Miss SA was a dream for her.

“The Miss SA journey so far has been incredible, but extremely challenging and demanding. It is a dream come true and I am putting in the work. This platform is amazing; the opportunities that I am already receiving just from being in the Top 35 are amazing.”

Mbali lauded her parents for keeping her grounded.

“My parents have played an incredible role in my life. I would not be the person I am today had it not been for them. They’ve kept me grounded in who I am and I’ll forever be grateful.”

She added that she would use the Miss SA opportunity to its fullest.

“I would like to be used as a vessel, show and prove to girls from smaller towns that if you believe in yourself and follow your dreams, anything can happen. Actions speak louder than words. I want to act to uplift thoughts and sentiments of humankind. I believe the opportunities I will get from Miss SA will change my life for better. I will fulfill my responsibility to perfection. I want to strive to be a mirror to all the aspirants and those around me.”

Mbali’s excitement for the future is evident: “I am really excited by what I’ve achieved so far. I am working towards building my empire and launching my media company, to create opportunities and alleviate social ills. I want to quote my grandma’s favorite song by Mahalia Jackson, ‘If I can help somebody as I pass along, If I can cheer somebody with a word or song, If I can show somebody that he’s travelling wrong then my living shall not be in vain. If I can do my duty as a good man ought, If I can bring back beauty to a world up wrought, If I can spread love’s message as the master taught, then my living shall not be in vain.’”

Mbali also had a special message for the youth: “Live your dreams, but also find people who can assist you in making those dreams possible. You sometimes cannot do it on your own. Find people who will believe in you, assist you and give you the guidance you need. Don’t take anything negative people say personally. You must know who you are and stand firm in your beliefs.”

The Top 16 finalists of the pageant will be announced on July 11.
