Estcourt Animal Shelter pleased by community support

This community-driven organisation managed to raise close to R4 000 for the animals

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated” and if you bought a wors roll at the Estcourt Animal Shelter stall at the Shepstone Place Winter Market, you have made an animal happier.

Thanks to the generosity and deep pockets of the community, the Estcourt Animal Shelter raised R3 820 at their stall. In addition to the delicious wors rolls, Patrizia Louw baked scrumptious biscuits, which were a hit on the day.

“The support was awesome!” exclaimed shelter Public Relations Officer Candice Hunter-Smith.

“We sold our wors rolls as well as the other biscuits we had on offer. Some donations were also put into our tin. It was also so special to have my son James help so much with cooking the wors and of course and most important, our community supporting us,” she added.

If you’re wondering how the money will be put to use … imagine happy dogs frolicking in a play area or being secure in a kennel where their needs are being et every day.

“The money will go to repairing the kennels and play area for the dogs,” explained Mrs Hunter-Smith.

Shelter Chairperson David McFie sincerely thanked Mrs Candice Hunter-Smith for her generous donation of the ingredients for the wors rolls. Remember that the Estcourt Animal Shelter is a community-driven organisation and relies solely on the generosity of the public.

The animals housed at the shelter have been given a ‘second chance’ and their search for a forever home is beginning.  If you are able to help those who cannot speak for themselves, cash donations can be made to this bank account –
