Orange Grove Dairy rebuilds after fire

Plans were swiftly put in place, to ensure milk brought in to Orange Grove Dairy from 40 dairy farmers, could be processed at 11 facilities around the country.

Ten weeks after a devastating fire gutted Orange Grove Dairy, plans are well in motion to raise one of Dundee’s oldest businesses from the ashes.

Plans were swiftly put in place, to ensure milk brought in to Orange Grove Dairy from 40 dairy farmers could be processed, at 11 facilities around the country including in the Free State and Limpopo. With this, the company hoped to ensure as many products as possible were quickly back in stock.

Orange Grove’s Dave Durham said contractors have moved in to clear the site and will be working ‘flat out’ to get the Ultra-high-temperature (UHT) plant, where long-life milk is processed, running by October. While the UHT storage area has been cleared, much still remains to be done.

“Spring normally sees a surge in dairy product consumption and we must be ready,” said Mr Durham.
