Arrested for possession of an illegal firearm near Ladysmith

The recovered firearm will be sent to the ballistic laboratory to ascertain if it has been involved in any crimes in the republic.

A vigilant police officer helped in arresting two men of being in possession of an illegal firearm recently in Weenen.

Two men aged 21 and 31 have made a brief appearance in the Weenen magistrates court recently.  The brave officer from the Ladysmith Tactical Response Team noticed a vehicle travelling along the R74 close to Weenen. The vehicle had four occupants in it three males and a female.

The officer roped in assistance from Ladysmith K9 officers who were in the vicinity. The vehicle stopped and a search was conducted. A 9mm pistol as well as ammunition were found in the possession of two suspects. It was established that the two suspects had requested a lift from the driver of the vehicle.

The suspects are due back in court on later this week. The recovered firearm will be sent to the ballistic laboratory to ascertain if it has been involved in any crimes in the republic.
