Make sure your dog is safe from biliary

If your dog exhibits any of the symptoms, they need to be taken to your nearest vet ASAP

Many dogs in Ladysmith have died due to biliary recently.

If a dog infected with biliary is not treated timeously, it will die.

In an exclusive interview with local vet Dr Catrien Rooijen, she says she has recently treated numerous dogs with bilary. “If you see that your dog is not its normal self, then bring it to me. The sooner I can assess them, the sooner I can treat them and save their lives,” says Dr Rooijen.

According to this vet, the symptoms of biliary include: loss of appetite, weakness, red urine and pale gums (instead of being pink).

If your dog exhibits any of these symptoms, they need to be taken to your nearest vet as soon as possible.

She also mentions that you can prevent your dog from contracting this disease by getting them onto a good tick control programme. There are various products you can use to prevent biliary, so protect your dog before the ticks take over!

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) say they have lost a few dogs due to tick bite fever. The league appeals to all pet owners to take precautionary measures to keep their dogs safe and healthy.
