Former Ladysmith resident Ahmed Seedat sentenced to 23 years in jail after killing his wife in Australia

He killed his wife so he could start a relationship with his sister-in-law

Former Ladysmith resident Ahmed Dawood Seedat has been jailed for at least 23 years for murdering his wife, Fahima Yusuf, in Australia.

Seedat was sentenced to life behind bars in the West Australian Supreme Court on Monday, with Judge Bruno Fiannaca describing the killing as brutal, callous and cowardly, says PerthNow news, who reported on the case extensively.

The judge said that Seedat had hit his wife with a wheel brace while she was asleep. She was then choked or suffocated before being buried in a hole which was dug in the backyard of their home in Australia.

According to Judge Fiannaca, Seedat was in love with his sister-in-law and intended to pursue a relationship with her, but she viewed him as a nothing more than a brother-in-law, reports PerthNow News.

Ahmed is the son of Dawood Seedat, who resided in a double-storey house in Forbes Street, Ladysmith. Ahmed was born in South Africa at a hospital in Durban.

The Seedat family moved abroad years ago.
