The two-day protest started on Thursday (May 23) and ended on Friday (May 24). Schools in the area were also affected, with no child attending school on those two days.

“Teaching and learning came to a halt, as we couldn’t go to work. People could also not get to town because of this protest. On the positive side, no roads were damaged,” said Nhlambamasoka Primary School teacher Ms Mgaga.

According to SAPS communication liaison Captain Bongani Nyati, “The main road to Umhlumayo is currently open. No protest action is taking place at the moment and no one was arrested during the protest.”
