Ladysmith man elected as new MEC for COGTA

Hlomuka's advice for the youth is that they must go to school and study hard

Sipho Hlomuka (39), who was born and bred in Ladysmith in an area called Ephayikeni (Embuzini), has made his hometown proud by becoming the new MEC for COGTA in KZN.

He will be serving in this position for the next five years.

Speaking to Ladysmith Gazette journalist Sindiswa Buthelezi, he said he did not become MEC overnight.

“I have served the African National Congress (ANC) for more than 15 years, occupying several positions during that time. I remember I was once a clerk (he said laughing), not knowing that some day I would become an MEC for COGTA. I also served as chairperson  of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) for over six years, not to mention being secretary for the ANC in the Ukhahlamba region. I am now serving as the deputy secretary of  the ANC in KZN,” said Hlomuka.

When we asked him if he had any words of wisdom for the youth, he said they must go to school and study hard. Hlomuka himself has a degree in Public Administration that he obtained at UKZN, an Honours Degree for Public Administration and is currently studying towards his Masters. He also has a diploma in Project Management.
