Estcourt residents satisfied with new location for fun fair
Residents living in the vicinity of the Forderville ground report that there have been no major incidents during the past two weeks
Anger and questions arose last Monday when the fun fair arrived in Forderville. Its location was the usual venue in front of Bert Webster Swimming Pool.
What was unusual was that residents expected a venue change after an agreement between Forderville Community Policing Forum (CPF) members and the fun fair owner, in the presence of Ward 10 Councillor Edith Lite during a community meeting last year.

Residents opposed the fun fair being allowed to operate at its usual venue, citing disorderly behaviour which sometimes escalates to violence as one of the main reasons.
It was agreed at the meeting that 2018 would be the last year this venue would be used.
But when nearby homeowners noticed the equipment moving in last Monday, they were firm in enforcing the agreement.
Last Wednesday, a meeting was held at the Estcourt police station, where it was agreed that the fun fair would immediately relocate to the Forderville ground.
Ugan Chetty who attended the meeting, said there was a lack of communication between the community and municipal leadership, but was supportive of the final decision.
“I am glad at the outcome; it does work out at the current location. I personally think that if there was communication between the Forderville CPF and municipal authorities, we would have had no problems that had to be resolved at the 11th hour,” said Mr Chetty.
Homeowner and Forderville CPF member Anil Sookraj said: “I am happy with where the fun fair is. We are experiencing no problems. It’s a win-win for all.”
