Several members of the group also attended the AGM. The club’s public relations officer thanked the organisation for lunch and the beautiful gifts that each member received.

Appreciation goes to the Rehabilitation Department from Estcourt Hospital for always responding to an invitation from the club. The members are grateful for the assistance and presence. The club now has a new, young and dynamic committee with great ideas.

Over the years, the club has organised excursions and conducted discussions on various subjects, particularly relating to their health and well-being. Screenings and blood sugar and pressure readings were a regular feature.

Members are timeously informed about current affairs, especially those affecting them. The club members fondly remembered those who have passed away over the years.

As a matter of interest, the oldest member – Mrs Suminthra Mocktar – was laid to rest at the ripe old age of 102-years-old, two years ago.

Mr and Mrs Nayagar were the most recent members bade farewell to Mr Nayager was 93-years-old. All occasions honouring those passing through their golden years were celebrated by the club.

These occasions included ‘Year of the Older Persons’ and ‘International Week of the Aged’. Thank you to the community for making this possible.

An article called ‘No shame in shedding a tear’ was read by Ted Naidu and five important facts related to the article were discussed. Birthdays for January and April were celebrated, and a beautiful birthday song was played.

The club members joined in with a little dance and much laughter. What of the club’s future?

“While we greatly appreciate the generosity of the School Governing Body, the principal and staff of Forderville Primary School for the free use of the hall when it is available, we must in all fairness seek a permanent place, possibly of our own.

“Any suggestions and assistance from the community is appreciated,” is the message from the club.
