Africa Day celebrated a day early by local primary school

The school was visited by teachers from various high schools and primary schools

May 25 is known as Africa Day, which is celebrated by all African nations.

Nhlanganiso Primary School in the Matiwane area celebrated Africa Day for the third time on May 24, a day early.

As part of the celebrations, the school was visited by teachers from various high schools and primary schools, as well as members of the community. The focus was on the cultural systems of other African countries.

School principal Mrs Sithole was overjoyed that the event was a success. She joined hands with her learners in lifting the flags of different countries.

A bit of history behind the day… Africa Day was first celebrated in 1958. Between then and 1963, the occasion was celebrated on April 25. Leaders of 32 countries met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1963, where they agreed to instead celebrate the day on May 25.
