Roosboom residents vote but wonder if it will help solve their water woes

Residents say they have to walk long distances to get water from another part of Roosboom

Residents of Esikhaleni Sendlala, which is an area in Roosboom, turned up to vote on May 8 but said they didn’t know what they were voting for, as the area has been without water since July last year.

Community member Sebenzile Shabalala explained that, “In June (last year), the water was on and off. Then came July and we didn’t have any running water coming out of our taps. Some time ago, we spoke to our ward councillor, Thuli Hadebe, regarding the matter and she promised to fix this problem. To date, it has not been fixed.”

Sebenzile continued that they have to walk long distances to get water from Red Hill, another part of Roosboom.

“Water is a basic need and without it, we are struggling. Especially if it comes to doing laundry over weekends, bathing before work in the mornings, and getting the children off to school. We don’t have water to do all that.”
