Nurses Day celebrated at Mediclinic Newcastle

The nurses at Mediclinic Newcastle celebrated Nurses Day and Mother’s Day on the same day, and when asked, they agreed they were grateful to be able to serve the community of Newcastle.

International Nurses Day (IND) 2019 had the theme “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Health for All”, was on May 12 (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth), with the purpose to mark the contributions that nurses make to society.

The nurses at Mediclinic Newcastle celebrated Nurses Day and Mother’s Day on the same day, and when asked, they agreed they were grateful to be able to serve the community of Newcastle.

Nurse Pinky Langa said helping patients is fulfilling. “Being able to help someone else is a good feeling for me. I take nursing as a calling. Seeing patients better than they were when they arrived in hospital, is truly a satisfying feeling.

The sacrifices that also go with this job are worth it. We spend most of our time away from our families. Some patients complain and are not appreciative, but the good far surpasses the bad. I wouldn’t trade my job for anything.”

Nurse Yvonne Vilakazi confirmed that being a nurse has been a great journey for her.

“This type of job has different layers; not one day could be exactly the same as another. I love that I can be part of the process of healing patients,” she concluded.
