Ultrasonographer Ruwaida Asvat provided some insight into the local expeditions of the Ladysmith branch of the Islamic Medical Association, as well as planned future projects

An interesting presentation on the importance of vaccines was held at the Islamic Educational Centre (IEC) on Wednesday (May 1). The presentation was made possible by the efforts of the Ladysmith branch of the Islamic Medical Association (IMA). The programme began with a Quranic recitation by local physiotherapist Hafez Shuaib Khan, followed by a welcome and introduction of the three guest speakers by Moulana Akleker.

Local ultrasonographer Ruwaida Asvat provided some insight into the local expeditions of the Ladysmith branch of the IMA, as well as planned future projects. Pharmacist Huzaifa Khan addressed the audience on vaccine hesitancy and the reasons this occurs.

It was then the turn of microbiologist Professor Anwar Hoosen to speak on the benefits of vaccinating and the impact on the community. Lastly, Professor Mohsin Ebrahim dealt with the Islamic viewpoint of vaccination.

A question and answer session was held thereafter, where attendees were given the opportunity to pose questions to a panel of specialists and professionals to clear up any confusion they had surrounding the issue of vaccination. Moulana Saleem Karrim concluded the programme by summarising the viewpoints that had been shared earlier.

Local doctor Madiha Mulla gave a vote of thanks to acknowledge all those involved in making the presentation possible, as well as the community for attending.

It was a fruitful morning and the audience certainly left with a broader understanding of vaccinations.
