Road blocked as service delivery protests flare up in Mondlo

Burning trees blocked the road between Mondlo and Vryheid, as disgruntled community members embarked on service delivery protests.

In the wake of the 2019 general elections, service delivery protests show no signs of letting up.

Earlier this afternoon, it was reported the road between Vryheid and Mondlo was blocked, when the community of Driekwart farm near Mondlo took to the streets to voice their discontent.

They cordoned off the roadway with burning trees.

Sources say the specific reasoning behind the protest, although rooted in service delivery, is not entirely clear.

It has been confirmed however, that the disgruntled community initially applied to embark on protest action on March 9.

Following negotiations, it was agreed that AbaQulusi Mayor, Cllr Jerry Sibiya would address the community.

This is a developing story and more updates are anticipated soon.
