Pets take their owners for a walk in the Dog-A-Thon

Awesome prizes were won in various fun categories such as ‘Best Dressed’, ‘Best Chick on Four Legs’ and ‘Most Obedient Dog’

The annual Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) Dog-A-Thon brought Egerton’s Agar Field alive on Wednesday last week (Worker’s Day).

Dog lovers from all around Ladysmith turned up in their numbers to tackle a 2.5km walk.

Before the walk got underway, the pet owners and their playful pooches gathered on the field, amid much barking and pulling on leads to sniff at all the other doggies in such close proximity.

Of course, some dogs are more aggressive than others, and the owners did a sterling job of making sure no fights broke out between the four-legged fur balls. Dogs of all shapes and sizes set off on a brisk walk in the area surrounding Agar Field.

Arriving back at the field, the owners’ “best friends” were rewarded with water bowls to cool down and re-hydrate. Awesome prizes were won in various fun categories such as ‘Best Dressed’, ‘Best Chick on Four Legs’ and ‘Most Obedient Dog’.

Public Safety officers were on hand to make sure all the walkers and dogs were kept safe throughout the route. The day was enjoyed by one and all, with everyone now looking forward to the next AACL Dog-A-Thon.
