On Saturday, 200 orphaned and vulnerable children received food packs and blankets from the national relief organisation the Gift of the Givers.

Jaaved Khan with some of the children in Wembezi who received benefitted from the Winter Warmth 2019 project.

As part of the monthly distribution to the project, Gift of the Givers visits Wembezi, Colita and Rensburg to hand out the packages.

Local volunteer Jaaved Khan said that Saturday’s distribution was special as the organisation kicked off its Winter Warmth project and all the children received warm good quality blankets to take home.

“With winter setting in quickly, we included the blanket as part of Winter Warmth 2019. The children will have food on the table and now also be able to keep warm during the cold winter nights,” said Mr Khan.

The food packs contained a 10kg maize meal, tea bags, soup, beans and other essentials to tide a family over for a month. Altogether the team distributed 200 packs in the three areas.

Gift of the Givers handed out 200 food packs and blankets.

These were received with appreciation and gratitude, especially from Sister Maureen Aron and her team from Ithembalethu Outreach Project.

Gift of the Givers has pledged monthly support to the children of Ithembalethu.

“As Gift of the Givers, we appreciate and recognise the work in the community with orphaned and vulnerable children and will continue to support their cause,” added Mr Khan.
