Another ‘money for jobs’ scam is doing the rounds in Dundee and this time the Dundee Hospital is being targeted
Several residents have reported receiving calls from a man calling himself Nathi Khumalo who can supposedly organise jobs for his victims at the hospital as long as they pay a ‘deposit of R350’.
Raymond Mthethwa* told the Courier about his telephonic encounter with Nathi.
“I am not sure how he got my telephone number. But he was very persistent; telling me to deposit money into his personal account if I wanted the job as clerk assistant at the Dundee Hospital. He claimed that the post was advertised internally.”
Raymond said Nathi called him relentlessly throughout the day.
“When he realised I was not budging, he asked me to give him numbers of people who are unemployed.

“He told me that if they don’t have a matric certificate, they can earn up to R7 000 and if they have a Matric certificate they will earn R10 000. Nathi told me that the closing date for this post was April 15, however, he’s got someone who can organise a medical certificate which would be used to explain the late submission of the forms.
“By so doing I would qualify for the interview.

“He told me I would need to deposit R350 via Spar or Shoprite and use his cell number which is 062 885 4457 to send him proof of payment.
“This is when I contacted the police who advised me that a case cannot be opened against this man if he has not scammed me out of my money yet which I thought was strange and that’s when I contacted the Courier”.
The Courier contacted Nathi Khumalo who confirmed that he could arrange jobs at the hospital – all you need is proof of address, a Matric certificate and a medical certificate costing R350 to qualify for the interview.
He asked the Courier journalist to send a name and ID number to his cellphone number and he was going to send banking details of his account.
Theodora Vilakazi, the Chief Executive Office Dundee Hospital, told the Courier that there are no advertised vacancies at the Hospital and that they had no knowledge of a Nathi Khumalo. “If there are posts available, Dundee Hospital will advertise following Department of Health recruitment policy,” she confirmed.
