Vryheid women reach out to storm ravaged Mozambicans

After Mozambique was hit by the merciless Cyclone Idai, members of Vryheid’s Women of Significance team decided to lend a helping hand.

FOLLOWING the devastation most areas in Mozambique are faced with, after the country was hit by the merciless Cyclone Idai, members of Vryheid’s Women of Significance team decided to lend a helping hand.

The team sent out its members, Khabo Nene, Nokuthula Mdlalose, and Mrs Africa pageant winner, Hlengiwe Zulu, to offer assistance to Mozambicans in dire need.

“We went to Pomene Island and donated clothes, stationary, sanitary pads, food and many other items which we felt would be helpful to cyclone victims who had lost everything, and were left with absolutely nothing but the clothing on their backs,” said Mrs Nene.

Mrs Nene described the situation in the country as, “very sad,” and said that she hoped to see more South Africans reaching out to these families.

The team says that the project was a great success and, although they could not help all those that were terribly affected by the cyclone, they are glad to have been able to help some of the people from Mozambique.
