Street mechanics blemish Estcourt’s CBD

Street mechanics created an eyesore as they fix cars on the road and roadsides

The ‘street mechanics’ in and around Estcourt’s central business district have been a cause for concern for a local business owner.

In Alfred Street a group of mechanics that repair vehicles on the roadside recently came to the attention of a business owner after he spotted something he could not turn a blind eye to.

“There is almost 200 litres of oil dropped onto the pavement and in the gutter. Vehicle spares are also left lying everywhere,” explained the resident.

He says that not only is the area becoming an eyesore, it is also a health hazard.

“People can’t even walk on the pavement; there are pieces of broken car spares. There is oil on the road and this is a supposedly new road,” he added.

The business owner recently contacted a local traffic officer to assist with removing or warning the mechanics against discarding oil and litter.

“I was told to report it to the Estcourt News first, so I hope this will prompt them to take action,” said the resident.
