Sanitation restores dignity to learners

Mayor Ngubane said the new toilets will prove more workable and healthier than what the school previously had.

The Amajuba District Municipality recently donated two easy-flush toilets to Lengola High School, which is situated in one of the most rural parts of Dannhauser.

The District said this donation was made in an attempt to restore dignity to the learners and teachers of the school.

The school received the easy-flush toilets from Envirosan Sanitation Solution, a company which provides a range of plastic injection moulded sanitation systems and solutions, and ROCLA, which are precast concrete infrastructural product specialists.

The new toilets were handed over to the school by Amajuba District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane, who said his intervention came after he was approached by the school’s principal.

“Mr Sithole approached me during a 2019 KZN Government School Functionality Programme which was held at a nearby school,” he said.

“I went there myself to witness the hardships and challenges faced by the learners and teachers at the school, which had no proper functioning toilets.”

Mayor Ngubane said the new toilets will prove more workable and healthier than what the school previously had.

“These two toilets are much better than the normal VIP toilets, because of their safety features and their water saving method. They can also be connected to a piped water system,” he explained. “It also takes more than 10 years before they need to be serviced.”

The construction of these types of toilets, he added, would give local communities job opportunities and skills, as all the material needed can be manufactured and approved on site.

“Today the teachers and learners of Lengola High School will no longer be forced to go to neighbouring schools and households to relieve themselves.”

The school’s principal thanked the mayor, and the two companies involved, for the donation to the school.
