The main purpose of the visit as outlined by the Speaker was to handover the contractor who will be upgrading the bulk water rising main from George Cross right up to the industrial area.

The contractor introduced was Sinethemba Construction. The duration of the project is eight months funded by Water and Sanitation Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) for over R23 million and expected to take up to eight months to complete. According to the Speaker, the contractor will work together with the community during the construction phase, which will benefit both the industrial and residential areas.

“We want people who are committed to work in this project so that it is completed on time. Recruitment process will be followed by the service provider and stakeholders,” said the Speaker Cllr Strydom.

Cllr Lite was grateful that Uthukela District has come to their rescue. She said service delivery now is something that they can see and touch. “The pipes were so small and we hope from now on things will be better. With that we are thankful to the Mayor and his team. Today we are proud and happy because we have been waiting for this for many years,” she said.

She also cautioned the service provider to do what he is appointed to do. Cllr Lite discouraged the community from buying any material meant for the project as this will cripple the project. She then advised the community if they have a problem there are correct channels to raise their concerns rather than taking to the streets.
