2000 falcons dead from freak hailstorm
The freak hailstorm in Newcastle has resulted in the death of over 2000 falcons.
Over 2000 falcons died at the Falcons Roost behind Farmer’s Hall, after the massive hail storm that hit Newcastle last night.
Bird Rehabilitator, Sylvia Francis, said she found the birds in a state of shock.
“We found the birds wet and covered in the hail storm’s ice. They were freezing and most of them had broken wings. We took the falcons that were still alive for treatment and rehabilitation. The dead falcons will be taken by University of KwaZulu Natal for research purposes.”
Francis thanked the community’s help.
“I am mostly thankful for the way people came out late at night to help us. We were up from about 9pm until 2am.”
