Uelzen’s driveway paved with good intentions

For years now, parents and teachers have had to cope with a dusty and sometimes muddy parking area in front of the school

It is only with the support of local business and the community that schools in the area will continue to progress to ensure quality education for all learners.

Evidence of this philosophy can be clearly seen at Uelzen Primary School where Klus Civils has stepped up to make a donation that will last for generations.

For years now, parents and teachers have had to cope with a dusty and sometimes muddy parking area in front of the school when picking up and dropping off their children or reporting for classes.

Ingrid van Staden, acting Uelzen Primary School principal, said there was ‘no way the school could ever afford a permanent solution to the problem and have just had to learn to live with it’.

That’s until twins, Marc and Leon Klusener, who have children in the school, recognised the problem and being civil engineers, quickly came up with a solution. They promised to tar the parking apron and approach driveway which would solve the dust and mud problem once and for all.

Marc and Leon Klusener of Klus Civils were pleased to meet ‘fellow twins’ at Uelzen. The three sets of Uelzen twins are nine-year-old boy/girl twins, Suyash and Suyasha Ragubeer, seven-year-old girl/girl twins, Sohalia and Somara Singh and 12-year-old boy/boy twins, Andrew and Bradley Cumming. They are seen with Acting Principal, Ingrid van Staden.

And that’s exactly what they delivered – all at their cost and time. Work has also been done to build a new sports field at Uelzen which will greatly enhance the school’s ability to host matches instead of having to play away.

On Friday, excited Uelzen school children, together with staff and Mrs van Staden, gathered to thank Marc and Leon and Klus Civils for their tremendous contribution. “It is a gesture that we can never repay – we are truly grateful,” Mrs van Staden said. As for the Klusener brothers, Marc and Leon, they said it was their way of giving back to the school and to the community at large for the benefit of all those who will pass through Uelzen School.
