Man’s body found after 3-day search in river

Family and police were notified after the man went underwater and did not surface again

On Monday and Tuesday (March 11 and 12), police desperately searched for a man who was swept away by strong currents in the Ingula River.

The man, together with relatives, went for a swim on Monday morning. While swimming, relatives noticed that he had not surfaced after going underwater and began frantically looking for him, but in vain. They immediately notified family and the police.

The Ladysmith Search & Rescue team went out, but failed to find a body. Family and community members watched with sad anticipation as the rescue team members went about the search. They were devastated when nothing was turned up.

Police then had to call off the search due to the high volume of water in the river.

The man’s body was eventually found by police yesterday morning (Wednesday, March 13).
