ANC win puts the party back in control in Endumeni

The ANC says the big issues will be clean out corruption and focus on the core values service delivery to all residents.

The ANC has regained control of the Endumeni Council following their candidate’s win in yesterday’s hard-fought by-election in Sithembile, Glencoe.

Mathula Nkosi (ANC candidate) received 1706 votes (around 57%)  to the IFP’s Sandile  Mhlongo’s 1138 to turn-around the ANC’s defeat in the 2017 by-election.

The victory gives the ANC seven seats in Council (six ward seats and one proportional representation seat) to the IFP’s three p.r. seats, the DA’s one ward and one p.r. seat and the EFF’s one p.r. seat.

This means the ANC can rule without any coalition partners needed.

The EFF only received 98 votes and the NFP 44. The voter turn out was around 63,5%.

Speaking to the Courier before the results, long-serving ANC Councillor, and now Deputy Mayor, Sduduzo Mdluli, said the big hope was stability to return to Endumeni ‘after two and a half years of tumultuous co-governance rule’.

He said the big issues will be clean out corruption and focus on the core values service delivery to all residents.

Municipal Manager, SR Ntuli, was suspended late last year and his hearing is expected to be finalised within the next few months.  Many other senior officials have also been suspended.
