Breaking down the process of reporting a crime

Police authorities suggest to residents to report any problems they encounter while lodging a complaint.

What happens when you call the radio room to report a crime?

Once you are through to the Call Centre, an officer will introduce himself and the office you are calling.

The officer will then record the relevant details of the report and log it into the system. A vehicle is dispatched and callers are encouraged to provide the correct address, to avoid wasting valuable time.

If the officer says there are no vehicles available, Col Nkosi advises complainants to contact him directly.

“Our numbers are freely available at the police station and displayed at the front desk. Please feel free to contact us,” he confirmed.

Both Zikalala and Col Nkosi advise residents to acquire as much information as they can about the officer they are reporting the crime to, this helps to track the complaint later on.

When a complaint is received there a reaction time which is monitored by the provincial office.

“The Control Room/ Community Service Centre operates 24 hours out of 24. A commander is always present at the Call Centre. Also take note of the time that you reported the crime.”

Police authorities suggest to residents to report any problems they encounter while lodging a complaint.

“The issue needs to be solved immediately; let us not wait,” encourages Zikalala.
