Update: Employees finally paid and set to resume work tomorrow

On Monday, the workers spent the whole day and night at the premises, waiting to get paid

The protesting workers who locked themselves in the factory premises where they work in the Pieters Industrial Area have finally been paid their wages.

The workers say they were supposed to get paid on Thursday last week and still had not received their wages on Monday (February 18).

The factory workers told the Ladysmith Gazette that when they arrived at work on Friday, the gates to the premises were locked and they couldn’t get inside. A union member spoke to them and they left.

When they returned to work on Monday, hoping to get paid, the gates were open but the factory was locked except the admin department. That’s when the furious employees locked themselves in the premises in protest. They were evidently promised by management that they would be paid on Monday, but that never happened.

On Monday, the workers spent the whole day and night at the premises, refusing to budge until they had received what was owed to them.

One of the workers informed the Ladysmith Gazette that they eventually got paid and will resume work tomorrow (Friday, February 22).

At the time of going to press, factory management had failed to comment on this matter.
