Wembezi ANC Branch Secretary survives shooting

This followed after party members were divided on Mr Mbatha stepping down

Shots were fired early on Wednesday morning through the bedroom window of Thamsanqa Mbatha, the African National Congress (ANC) Branch Secretary of the Promise Nyoka Branch in Wembezi.

The alleged shooting occurred after a division between party members.

A source who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons said: “This incident followed after some members of the party disagreed on him stepping down as the Election Co-ordinator. Such factions are destroying the organisation.”

Mr Mbatha who resides in Wembezi was fortunately not injured during the shooting. Wembezi detectives are currently investigating a case of attempted murder.

“The incident occurred in Depot section. It is alleged that shots were fired through the window of a house. No one was injured during the incident,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer, Basheer Khan.
