The Kandhailall’s are still in love, 67 years on

After 67 years together, the couple are still madly in love

Love conquers all and Betty and Sewshankar Kandhailall are living proof of that.

The couple has been married for 67 years and are still madly in love. Both 86-years-old, they have six children (two have passed on), 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The Kandhailall’s met in the area known as Palmietfontein (Mayoyo), over the railway line from Dannhauser, where they both lived.

They fell in love, were married on September 18, 1952, raised a family, and to this day, remain as close as ever. They still go everywhere together and make a habit of taking a drive to Newcastle to make a day of it. They still smile fondly when reminiscing on days gone by and still have a sparkle in their eyes when they look at each other. Their key to a happy marriage? Just appreciating what they have and not fighting or finding faults.

“Life is beautiful. It all depends on how you live it. If you have love for one another and love for God, you can overcome anything,” they said.

They also added what a blessing it was to see their great-grandchildren grow up and see how close the family still is.

Granddaughter, Subashni Kamal also expressed her admiration for her grandparents and their unfailing love. “They are the rock that holds our family together. I love them so much and I’m blessed to have them in my life,” she said.

An inspiration to all who know their story, the Kandhailall’s are a beautiful example that in life, all you need is each other.
