British couple’s battle surprise ‘extra special’

Happy accident turns into amazing experience for British couple

For British couple, Robert and Karen Mitchell, a planned holiday to South Africa turned out to be extra special when they stumbled upon a battle reenactment by accident.

In the process, they were a part of history remembered and captured some stunning images too.

The Mitchell’s arrived in South Africa on January 2 and made their way to Dundee on January 17.

Prior to that, they were in Zambia (the land of Karen’s birth) and Zimbabwe as well.

While in Dundee, the Mitchell’s decided to visit some of the battle sites and were headed towards Rorke’s Drift last Friday, when they stopped by a passing group of locals, asking for directions to Isandlwana.

After pointing them in the right direction, the Mitchell’s noticed that there was a large number of people headed out that way and decided to see what all the fuss was about.

Upon arriving, they realised they had arrived at the 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Isandlwana, commemorated with the re-enactment of the battle.

The Mitchell’s left Dundee the following morning for St Lucia before spending five days in the Kruger. They then made their way home to Hampshire, England.
