Abducted woman rescued in traffic roadblock in Ulundi

A female passenger in one of the vehicles traffic officers pulled over, began to scream for help.

NEARLY R40 000 in counterfeit money was seized during a roadblock held by traffic officials at the old Mkhazane Road in Ulundi recently.

Communications officer for the Zululand SAPS Cluster, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said that the Ulundi K9 Unit received a call for back up from the traffic officials when a female passenger in one of the vehicles they pulled over, began to scream for help.

“There were four men and a woman in the black Ford Focus that was stopped in a routine road block. The woman began screaming, saying she had been kidnapped. During interrogation, it was discovered that the men allegedly intended to rob the woman, who was carrying R17 000 in cash that she had withdrawn at an ATM. It seems that they meant to replace her actual cash with counterfeit notes before letting her go,” said Captain Gwala.
