UPDATE: Utrecht official given ultimatum over tender fraud

According to an official statement from the municipality, Utrecht’s council resolved to appoint an investigator to look into the corruption allegations, as per the disciplinary regulations for senior managers.

eMadlangeni Municipality convened a special council meeting last week to discuss the matter of suspected tender fraud.

This meeting also dealt with the future of those reportedly involved.

According to an official statement from the municipality, Utrecht’s council resolved to appoint an investigator to look into the corruption allegations, as per the disciplinary regulations for senior managers.

“Furthermore the allegedly involved senior official was instructed to present reasons why [he/she] should not be
suspended, to council within seven days.”

After unearthing what was believed to be tender fraud earlier in January, with a contractor paid before rendering
any service, eMadlangeni Municipality opened a case with Utrecht SAPS.

This related to the White City Road Rehabilitation Project.
