La Gratitude Home for the Aged, in conjunction with other stakeholders, hosted a workshop for caregivers to Alzheimers patients recently.
In the past, the home has hosted many support group meetings, to shed light on the disease and how to properly care for people who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Department of Health (DOH) paid La Gratituide a visit to present the workshop, to educate the staff and caregivers on the desease. Participants included representatives from La Gratitude, the Newcastle Crisis Center, Nofta and Madadeni Regional Hospital.
“Many dementia patients are left to fend for themselves and are not always accepted in their community. That is why it is extremely important to educate people on how to care for these patients,” explained sister Mariëte Mostert of Madadeni Hospital.

Skombuso Zulu from DOH explained care was of utmost importance when it comes to working with people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Helping those in need can sometimes be difficult without the right resources, which is why La Gratitude and DOH undertook to continally educate caregivers and ensure those in dire need received the love and care required.
