This week in 1998, these three stories were a few of many to make headlines in the Estcourt and Midlands News

1. Boys survive 3000 volt electric shock – Christian Wolfaart and Gustav were skateboarding at the railway station when they opened a hatch on the roof of the train and climbed in. While trying to get Gustav out, his back made contact with one of the cables.

2. RTI focus is on saving lives – It has been 60 long years since traffic officers first began patrolling the route between Estcourt and Durban.

3. Safety awards for local mill – Masonite Mill held its 25th cycle of the Mike Ashe safety awards ceremony. Senior management and employees were commended for their contribution.
