Donate a pint of life-saving blood at the Relay for Life in Estcourt

People are encouraged to come and donate their precious blood, as people suffering with different types of cancers rely on blood transfusions for various treatments

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) together with the Estcourt SAI Organisation supports the CanSA Relay, which will be held on September 8 and 9 at the Forderville Primary School grounds.

The Relay takes place annually at the Forderville Primary School in memory of people who have suffered from cancer.
At this year’s event, the SANBS together with the Estcourt SAI Organisation will again be hosting a blood donation drive from 11am till late.

People are encouraged to come and donate their precious blood, as people suffering with different types of cancers rely on blood transfusions for various treatments.

Khulekani Zuma who is the Donor Relations Practitioner for the South African National Blood Service said: “We would like to call on all the people of Estcourt and surrounding areas to come in their numbers to support this good cause.

“Last year, at the same event, we had tremendous support from the community. We are hoping to get more than 100 people to donate on the day.”

The requirements to donate blood are:

• Must be between the ages of 16 and 65.
• Must have a meal prior to donating blood.
• Must weigh at least 50kg or more.
• Must lead a sexually safe lifestyle and consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient.
• Must be in good health at the time of donation.
