Construction on Abaqulusi Private Hospital resumes

CONSTRUCTION of the AbaQulusi Private Hospital resumed on Monday.

It’s been exactly a year since the hospital was supposed to have opened its doors to the public, but funding challenges resulted in the project coming to a standstill when it was just about 95% complete.

All the medical staff that had been employed had to be retrenched when funds ran out, and they are still waiting to be paid their retrenchment packages.

Project director, Thami Mlotshwa, confirmed this week that he has concluded a deal with private healthcare funding company, RH Managers, which has injected enough money into the project to see the hospital to completion.

“It has been a difficult and frustrating time and I had to seek alternative funding to ensure that the project is complete. I know the community is looking forward to the hospital being opened and Vryheid needs this hospital. We expect construction to be completed in the next two months. By next month, RH Managers will release the funds that will make it possible for us to compensate all the staff that were retrenched with their packages. Once that has been done, we will have to begin the recruitment process again,” said Mlotshwa.
