Scarm Alert: man pretending to be a recruiter for Correctional Services

'This sounded too good to be true and that is when I decided to call the Correctional Services HR department at Newcastle.'

A man calling himself Bongani Khumalo called the Courier on Monday and pretended to be calling from Newcastle Correctional Services looking for Nomkhosi Dlamini. When he was told that he was not calling Correctional Services but a private company and there is no Dlamini working here, he immediately asked to be transferred to a Zulu speaking person.

Bongani then told the Zulu speaking journalist, Fathima,  that the person he was looking for ‘didn’t pitch for a job interview and they are looking for four extra people at Correctional Services. He demanded that I, Fathima, bring my  matric certificate and call him on 078 340 512 or on 060 681 4733 when I get to Newcastle.

Bongani also said that I must come in between 1.30 pm and 4 pm. This sounded too good to be true and that is when I decided to call the Correctional Services HR department at Newcastle.

When we called the Newcastle Correctional Services HR department we were advised that Bongani is a fraudster who is wanted by the police.

Please be aware of such a scam as it is doing its rounds in Dundee.
