MEC calls urgent meeting with uThukela

"The drought crippled the municipality" says the uThukela spokesperson

An urgent meeting was called yesterday (September 4) by COGTA MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube to meet with uThukela District Municipality.

uThukela councillors met with the MEC at 2pm today.

This in light of the fact that uThukela has been experiencing financial strain.

“Over the past 3 years, the municipality was faced with severe drought. The drought crippled the municipality financially as less revenue was generated from the sale of water, and high expenditure was incurred in carting potable water to needy communities and drilling new boreholes,” said uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza.
